Bitumen 180/200

Bitumen 180/200 is a very soft grade of penetration bitumen. Bitumen 180/200 is selected for situations where extreme flexibility is required, particularly in very cold environments. Its softness makes it less common for standard road construction, but crucial in specialized applications where other grades would become too brittle.

Main Applications Of Bitumen 85/100

The main application of Bitumen 180/200 is in cold climate road construction. Due to its very soft and flexible nature, it is especially suitable for regions with extreme cold temperatures where roads are subject to significant thermal contraction and expansion.

  1. Paving in Extreme Cold Climates:
Bitumen 180/200 is used to produce asphalt mixes that remain flexible and resilient in very low temperatures, preventing the pavement from becoming brittle and cracking. This is essential in polar regions, high-altitude areas, and other environments with severe winter conditions.
  2. Surface Dressing:
It is sometimes used in surface dressing for roads in cold climates, where its flexibility helps in maintaining the integrity of the road surface under stress from traffic and temperature changes.
  3. Industrial and Specialized Uses:
Besides road construction, Bitumen 180/200 can be used in industrial applications where a soft, highly flexible material is needed, such as in certain types of waterproofing products or bituminous membranes.

This grade is not as commonly used in standard road construction due to its softness, but it is crucial for maintaining the durability and flexibility of pavements in environments where other bitumen grades would fail.

Various Packing Method for Bitumen

Packing bitumen is an essential process to ensure its safe transportation, storage, and handling. The method of packing often depends on the type of bitumen, the transportation method, and the end-use. Here are the various methods used to pack bitumen:

Drum Packing

Bitumen is commonly packed in steel drums, which are robust and provide good protection during transportation.

Jumbo Packing

Bitumen is packed in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bags and are lined with a plastic bag to prevent leakage.

Tanker Vessel

Bitumen can be transported in bulk using specially designed tankers equipped with heating systems to maintain the bitumen in a molten state.

Tank Container

These are large, insulated containers used for the international transport of bitumen.
