Cutback Bitumen MC-250

Bitumen MC250 is a type of medium-curing (MC) cutback bitumen where the “250” refers to its viscosity level. In this cutback bitumen, bitumen is diluted with a medium-volatile solvent such as kerosene to lower its viscosity, making it easier to apply at lower temperatures. Once the bitumen is applied, the solvent evaporates, leaving behind the bitumen to perform as a binder.

Main Applications Of Cutback Bitumen MC250

The main application of Bitumen MC250 is in road construction and maintenance, particularly for creating a strong bond between different layers and providing surface protection. Here are the key uses:

  1. Prime Coating: Bitumen MC250 is primarily used as a prime coat on granular base layers in road construction. It helps to:
    • Bind and stabilize loose particles on the base course.
    • Create a solid foundation for the next layer of pavement.
    • Enhance the adhesion between the base layer and the asphalt overlay, ensuring a strong bond and increasing pavement longevity.
  2. Tack Coating: Applied as a tack coat between existing and new asphalt layers to improve the bonding between them. This helps to ensure that the layers adhere well, preventing separation or slippage under traffic loads.
  3. Surface Dressing: Bitumen MC250 is also used in surface dressing, which involves applying a layer of bitumen followed by aggregate. This technique is used to:
    • Waterproof and protect the road surface.
    • Provide better skid resistance and extend the lifespan of the pavement, especially in areas with moderate to heavy traffic.
  4. Cold Mix Asphalt: Utilized in the preparation of cold mix asphalt, which is applied at ambient temperatures. It is ideal for pothole repairs, patching, and low-traffic roads, where the use of hot mix asphalt is not feasible.

The primary use of Bitumen MC250 is for prime coating in road construction, where it stabilizes the base layer and improves adhesion between pavement layers. It is also applied as a tack coat, in surface dressing, and for cold mix asphalt preparation, making it a versatile material for various road-building and maintenance applications. Its ability to be applied at lower temperatures without the need for heating equipment makes it convenient in many scenarios.

Various Packing Method for Cutback Bitumen MC250

Packing cutback bitumen is an essential process to ensure its safe transportation, storage, and handling. The method of packing often depends on the type of cutback bitumen, the transportation method, and the end-use. Here are the various methods used to pack cutback bitumen:

Steel Drum Packing

Cutback Bitumen is commonly packed in new or re-conditioned steel drums, which are robust and provide good protection during transportation.

IBC Tank Packing

Cutback Bitumen is commonly packed in new IBC tank or re-conditioned IBC tank, which are robust and provide good protection during transportation.
